Q1: How did you come to BMU?
A: I was an A level student at RSU and I could not write JAMB because of my age. The plan was to go abroad but the dollar rate was high at that time. I wanted to go to a private university in Rivers State because they were giving out scholarships but we found out they were selling it for an outrageous price. My best friend was schooling in BMU so we chose it as the final option and they gave me admission.
Q2: What's the hardest academic moment you faced this semester and did you cry?
A: Checking our last semester results and the rush of our tests and exams.
Q3: Have you made any mistakes as a student?
A: I procrastinated a lot in my last semester.
Q4: What do you think people misunderstand most about your course? A: They think it’s a shallow course that only studies the eye. I believe it’s a very prestigious course and I know there’s more to it.
Q5: Is there any deity or supreme being you believe in?
A: I believe in God. I’m a christian.
Q6: Why do you believe in God?
A: Because I feel like there’s a supreme, heavenly body that’s watching over us.
Q7: Do you think religion plays any role in academics and why?
A: No, I don’t. Because life is very personal. Religion defines us as persons but it doesn’t influence our academics. Beliefs also matter. We might have different stages in our beliefs. A cultist can have better grades than a christian probably because he’s a rugged cultist while I’m just a baby christian.
Q8: Would God EQUALLY help students who have been diligent in keeping up their spiritual/academic life since the beginning of the semester and students who only come to Him when it’s time for exams?
A: Yes. I think so because He’s a father.
Q9: What’s your honest opinion about romantic relationships in school?
A: I believe in balance and I also think you should find your purpose and yourself before finding a relationship even though it’s possible that a partner could find you before you figure out your purpose.
Q10: Are you talking out of experience or out of knowledge?
A: Out of common knowledge. It’s common knowledge that you should know who you are before finding your other half.
Q11: What about the people that found true love before finding their purpose, are those rare cases?
A: Yes, I think so. Maybe God sent the other person to help them find themselves because they wouldn’t have been able to do it on their own. There’s definitely a reason.
Q12: Who instantly pops in your head when I ask about someone that has majorly shaped your academic journey?
A: My mom, my dad, my cousin and my two brothers.
Q13: What’s the biggest misconception you believe lecturers have about students?
A: That I don’t attend class means I’m not serious and I’m going to fail. Also, students would work harder if they made life harder for them.
Q14: How do you define failure and success as a student?
A: A failed student is someone who has stopped trying and a successful student is one who keeps trying after failing; someone who keeps going regardless of the situation.
Q15: What’s one question you wished I asked you?
A: “Is there anything you wish to change in this school currently?”
